History and reasoning (feel free to skip)---------------------------------
Last week I dl'ed and installed Firefox to replace IE after I read some positive reviews. I like Firefox but encountered two compatability issues, the first with an external security webcam which has its own ip.....sadly Firefox reports it cant stream the mpeg4 feed so i cant monitor it with a normal browser window (I can with IE). The second is MacAfee which doesnt like my non Internet Explorer browser for its updates. So I revert to IE.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IE has developed a problem whereby if I click a link that prompts a new window (kinda like a popup but not a pop up ;) ) the blankwindow forms on the desktop but never makes any effort to load the page in question. Links that update the current IE window are fine, but the problem also afflicts update widows that use popups etc. So even though I have popups enabled on this site the update process hangs.

Any suggestions...or else any advice as to how I do proper reinstall of IE since the the built in uninstall and reinstall clearly is not replacing all the old files etc.....or any clue as to how I can get MacAfee to update through Firefox since I can live with the security camera feed issue?

I read somewhere that Mcafee ties you into IE for it's updates. Not sure how it does this. Have you tried manually downloading any Mcafee updates - although this kinda defeats the object of being protected through autoupdating.

McAfee came free with my PC on a trial basis - I still have it activated for the alarm thing that triggers when something asks to connect to the internet. But I stopped the subscription virusguard stuff. I use AVG free edition for all my virus needs (and adaware for my spyware stuff)

I use firefox exclusively and have no problems - I much prefer the browsing experience on Firefox because I have been used to tabbed browsing for a number of years on my mac. I could not live without tabbed browsing.

I can't help with the IE problems - have you tried re-enabling popups as a default - rather than per site? Not ideal but it would narrow the search down.

For the best I would suggest Spybot and Ad-aware for your Spyware and for Trojans and Viruses I would suggest Symantec Antivirus Coporate edition. These are best for your Internet needs.....and you don't need IE for updates.

The spyware protection softwares are free however Symantec Antivirus coporate edition cost around £400 (or you could use Limewire to get it for free....not that I condone using Limewire for such things.....)

I'll ask the Mrs. about this and post back later tonight, she does cross-browser development for video streaming educational material.

She's bound to know the answer!

It's somethingto do with "outside procedure calls" as far as I remember.

For a quick remedy Tytanya i would just do a restore to a point before you tried to install FireFox.

Just to clear something up for me is FireFox the one that runs Mozilla ?
