UFO Aftershock.

Very good game and very heavy on the stratergy. It's the next edition of the Xcom games (which I hope everyone should remember, as they were amazingly good).

I bought it quite a while ago, but didn't really get around to playing it properly becuase of CoV and other games getting in the way. Now that I've killed my CoV account I'm finding the time to pick up the games I haven't played for a while and try to get them finished without the video game equivalent of smoking dope with your mates (playing MMO's) getting int he way.

Anyhow, single player games, it's nice to have a fucking plot line sometimes!

Thinking of checking out Neocron2 as the game looked intersting and there's currently a 10 day free trial offered....anyone know anything about the game...kinda cyberpunk it claims with an fps style combat system?

Neocron is the worst game I have ever played. Its so badly made, I wouldn't even bother if I were you.

yeah the UFO X-com games were great - is the new one still turn-based or has it gone RTS?

Battlefront 2 is a great game Obi - im really enjoying it

but Call of Duty 2 is my favourite single player game at the moment - its seriously intense - i have to go for a lie down after 30 mins hehehe

It's actually "Stoptime Stratergy". Whereby you que up commands and then hit go and watch everything move until an event happes like spotting an alien, taking damage, running out of que'd commands, etc. Takes a few missions to get used to it properly, but it's better than the old turn based setup, and much more "Xcom" than it would be as RTS. Feels more fluid in this form.

Anyway, it's a proper good game and it's bloody difficult at times too.

Tip of the day: At the start when you don't have a descent amoutn of ranged weaponry, go in hard and fast and focus your fire on a single target at a time. Use the burst options and get as much lead in your targets as you can in the shortest space of time. Anthing that has a gun at that stage of the game will pound you at medium to long range so be sure to take the fight to them.

The only thing that really held me back with it at the start is that the globe interface and the production/research setup is a little fidly and not really intuitive. You will figure it out though. oh yeah, and you need to build tracks between bases to get the resources from the regions back to your main HQ. AND the tracks are required before you can start building stuff at new bases.
