Factional warfare, while a great idea (http://www.massively.com/2008/06/16/eve-evolved-faction-warfare-unleashed/) when it came out, is in need of some trimming (http://www.massively.com/2009/05/18/eve-evolved-has-faction-warfare-been-abandoned/) as of late. Some have even gone so far to say that the developers at CCP (http://www.massively.com/tag/ccp) have abandoned the project (http://xiphos83.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/is-faction-warfare-dead/) but a recent EVE (http://www.eveonline.com) dev post says otherwise.
CCP Ytterbium has gone on the record (http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=671) to say that there are changes coming to the factional warfare system.
