Ok, Different problem to J, whats happening to me is when I'm booting its getting as far as the windows license agreement (technically just before) and then kicking me out of the boot...
Things I've tried....
Graphics card switched
RAM switched
Alternate copy of windows
different CD drive
Different HD
BIOS updated
at the moment I'm rolling back the BIOS to sort of a mid update just to make sure its not a new issue with the latest BIOS (who knows)
other than that it leaves me with new motherboard but I shouldn't be as this ones brand new and its getting as far as it is problem free...
any extra things i could try before resorting to spending money?

thats what happens to me if I insert my second 2 gig ram stick...I assumed a power issue as in the PSU is unable to cope either that or a windows registry error in accessing 4 gig of RAM on a 32bit OS since 32 bit OS also include grfx memory in that calculation.
I was assured the latter is not the case but I'm still not sure.
If you find out the cause I'd be interested to know

no luck with the BIOS rollback...
that RAM issue sounds suspiciously like you have a damaged stick, is it brand new? because the last PC i built (before this one) had a stick of RAM that came out of the box damaged, I suggest testing it in another computer if you haven't already done (or test it on its own?) otherwise like you say, may be a power related problem, what size PSU are you using?
anyhoo, with mine I've tested both sticks individually as I've been duped by that before and come to the conclusion that its my mobo that needs changing so hopefully the replacement should get to me at work tomorrow!

yeh did the try it in the slot thing no joy with it, swap slots no joy, try individually both fine bah. Yeh i had a PSU issue which is why I upgraded but I assumed mobo issue at the time as there was power getting to the board but no post who knows so suspect PSU need a replacement but not rich enough, and the PC works atm :p
yeh mebbe a new mobo that xfx one V posterd is sexeh!
