Yeah, it's basically GTA4 on hard mode.

First mission is a massive static gunfight bigger than anything in the Belic story.

There is a degree of shared content. If you recall, Elizabeta introduces Nico to Johnny and Playboy and Nico and Johnny get involved in some dealings together.
