Our very own Inanna Zuni is standing as a candidate for the CSM as an independent candidate.

So vote for the voice of the little people, the Empire-bound, the griefed and the forgotten.

Do us a favour Inanna?

Could you post here when you updat the blogs n stuff?

I like that site you have there, but I keep forgetting.

It's only every couple weeks I remember, go there and catch up.

"A conversation with Yrathi Tai of the EVE Tribune" is a great article, you interview very well indeed.

Well, the first CSM - CCP Devs meeting finished last night up in Iceland. I wouldn't say the three days of discussion were 'fun' (they were indoors in a dark room which needed better air conditioning as we brought the heat and nonstop sunshine with us) but I think they were really productive.

Some things we were told are very unlikely to happen because of the system design at the server end to make it run as fast as possible, but many others will either be implemented pretty asap (which might still be a while) or will get folded in to future release plans.

All in all, a useful experience. And sfaiaa nobody died (yet! there is still the flight home ...)

Yeah, I assume there's plenty you can't tell us due to NDAs, but I understand a large number of player and dev ideas will never be implemented in the current build due to the limitations of stackless Python.

The main problem I'm aware of is that there are giant piles of old programming fundamental to the core of the game that often interact badly with updates and added features, meaning that every time they implement something new there is a LOT of back programming needed to ensure it doesn't just break the game by interfering with older code.
Then there's older code that's now redundant, but still in there to ensure that removing it doesn't cause errors, but it too can interfere with new code.
Pretty much, in the next couple years they should probably look at programming the game from scratch in a simpler construct, otherwise it will only get worse.

Game limitations interest me to some degree.

Still interested in how split server systems will operate and whether they will make it into the game in the next year or two.

I'll probably be pushing the NDA envelope a bit as they kept forgetting to define what they considered as covered by it ;-P Yes, some of it is inherent limitations but mostly it is server-side limits and database tuning that they are keeping to.

I was putting this point a number of times that they will need to do some major rewrites. they didn't disagree. I also noted a job on the CCP website which goes on about creating re-usable code (for EVE and 'another game') and was being tempted to apply - I just think I wouldn't be comfortable with no light for a few months a year though.

The 'Another Game' would be Duckworld Online*, the White Wolf property they're working on.

There's another thread here about it somewhere.

*Darkworld Online

I believe the first big announcements for the "pink elephant" (because they couldn't talk about it at fanfest ;) ) will be in the next month.

Assuming they are on schedule.

HERE (http://www.the-causality.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1386&highlight=dark+world)'s the original Causality thread regarding Duckworld.

Remember, the original developers mentioned on IGN are defunct, and Darkworld is, and was, White Wolf's IP.

Now they're part of CCP.

Still love the fact we christened it duckworld

If you want to see what some of the other CSM members look like (eg. to laugh at Jade) then http://inanna-zuni.livejournal.com/9196.html is where you want to go

anyone get thrown in the hot-springs?

No opportunity! We worked too hard and didn't do the tourist thing (except for the one visit on the Friday afternoon) :-(
