thers been a few posts about SWG on other threads and obviously we are about to merge with SOE sooo as a long term player (18 months +) of SWG and having played MXO since euro launch i thought id do a personal comparison of the two - other SWG players may like to add their opinions and hopefully anyone who is thinking of getting the station pass and playing both games will have a better idea of what they are getting in to :D

1. content and size - SWG wins this hands down. Much bigger and loads to do and see

2. avatar - SWG wins again. better graphics - much more customisable avatar that you can change the look of all the time - theres even a profession who's job it is - image designer.

3. storyline - MXO was better. SWG used to be very lame on plot - just go and fetch missions. SWG is improving a bit with recent
t expansions but MXO won this until recently.

4 crafting - SWG wins easily - if you want to build and make stuff you are in heaven. Crafting is massive and very detailed and tbh you could spend your whole time just crafting - some players do

5 roleplay -this is close, neither game is good because of the players. - roleplayers seem to be limited in both games - but you can find them!!

6 grinding - well SWG is grind grind grind and so is MXO - but if you think getting to 50 in MXO is hard thats peanuts compared to getting to jedi....theres major grinding to be done in SWG to get to the higher level roles - personally i cant be arsed.

7 combat - MXO wins this easily - i love the simplicity of the MXO combat system and the way it looks. its quick and easy to use. SWG has a new system which i havent played much. There was a lot of whining about the Combat Upgrade (CU) which is the "ruined the game" patch you hear mentioned. - but combat was shit before and i feel its better now.

8 PvP - im no expert on PvP but seems easier to get into on MXO - it used to be all about who had the best buffs in SWG but recent changes have again levelled the playing fields. Its and "opt in" system you elect to be "special forces" and then you are open to give and take PvP with other special forces players. All jedi are PvP all the time and are hunted by bounty hunters. I prefer MXO though.

9 Live Events - was MXO's strength - i hope that comes back soon. Virtually non-existant in SWG.

10 quests/missions - MXO has the advantage of things being "instanced" so noone else turns up to steal your kills or camp the boss. SWG hasnt and at times it can be a real pisser to travel a long way to find all the bad guys already dead and any loot long gone -or some lame guy farming the bosses - which incidently take ages to respawn sometimes - like 50 mins or more!

11 solo/teamplay - SWG used to be very soloable but the combat changes have meant that teamplay is now an essential - personally i really like that cos i play mmo's to spend time with people but soloists may not be happy long term (unless your big on the crafting and buying/selling game)

finally a word on the "space" element of SWG - this is a whole new game in itself and a pretty cool space fighting simulator. The first time you step into your new shiny TIE fighter..wow! This really made the game for me when it was introduced a year ago.

which one to play? - well right now MXO is very dull and SWG wins hands down for me. BUt once the mergers is away and MXO starts to get more content and live events again then its a close run thing - three months ago I played nothing but MXO.

for me the station pass with both games available looks a damn fine deal

for the Glory of the Empire!

The station pass is $21/month i think, which is about £15. It lets you play MxO (when its moved over), SWH, EQ, EQ2, planetside, and a couple of others too.

If everyone else jumps over to swg then so will i when mxo combines with station pass then i might try out swg for when mxo is screwing about but for now the merge has been keeping me busy

Well I'm still here, still playing both. I personally think that SWG is a better game in what it has to offer, but you will get bored of it eventually, as all MMO's are essentially the same. I guess though it's nice to play a different game for a lil while, and I'll keep playing both on the station pass.
This is the best group of ppl I've found on any game though, whcih is why I keep coming back despite how completely fucked the game is.

hey guys, im a big MMO player, and im thiking of getting the station pass. anyone know when it comes with MxO too?
I used to play SWG, right when it began, and again in the JtL beta....good times, but i am not playing atm and my comp is screwed and i lost the disk so i have to buy it again. are ya'll all one big happy family over there, and have a city etc? cuz i would like to join, as there is no RCA over on SWG. Im going to play both games, so any RCA-ers who see this dont worry, k! i really want to join yall's and i wont do any spying (duh, im not a bad guy!) etc, and i like u causality guys too!

ive read about cities and things but dont we all need to be on the same server? Im also going to be buying SWG asap so maybe people could all be encouraged to make new characters on the same server? I think it would be pretty cool as we all know each other and the more experianced players could help others through the learning curve :) any thoughts? If im playing both games then i would rather be around other players like you guys. 8)

to play together we'd all need to use the same server and i guess the chances of that currently being the case are small - SWG has a lot of servers..

so we'd have to all if not most start frsh characters to build a causality town/faction

im on euro infinity but if we all went for a diff server id be game for starting a fresh character for a while.

my main char will always be on infinity - i have put 18 months into him!

but it would give me an excuse to try that dancer/carbineer combo i secretly dream of..lol :D

My brand spanking new char is on Infinity, so I'll add you lot to my contacts.

ill make one on infinity, but does no one know when station pass links with MXO?

Sallus
08-18-2005, 06:44 AM
to clarify - infinity is where i am.

i have no idea where the other causality SWG players are but im pretty sure they are NOT on infinity

i am also guilded and settled in a town on infinity so im not interested in starting a new town or joining a causality guild on infinity

what i said was if causality decides to all get together on one server (other than infinity) then ill start a new character there and join up

hope that makes sense now :? :D

It already does, it was an option when you converted your Monolith account to SOE.

cuz of the station access now it's definetly tempting to try out SWG...
me and my mates tho about quitting MxO 2 months ago already but we started meeting nice ppl who stopped us from doing so.. but it's true when the events (no matter if player or live event) wont come i see bad chances for MxO to stand against other MMOs..

im still waiting for Zen Master, Citadel Coder and Trojan Hoe ehh Horse

So is everyone jumping to SWG?

I seem to meet very few ppl in MxO these days, I've been solo since mondayand not met another causality member since. Without the Buddy list, it's impossible to see who's on because only a dozen of us can be bothered to use x-fire.

Buddy list still exists :S just need to re-add all your mates. Xfire still pwns it tho

Im playing both, and wont be quiting mxo for a long time! I want to be on the bandwagon from early on and see how much it improves, as tbh, back in the day swg was pretty crap at first ;)
