Graphics card fan making lots of noise

It seems like my graphics card is failing.

However Im looking to extend its life without voiding warrenty for the free replacement. The fan seems to be moving too slowly, and is making lots of noise. Whilst games still work fine atm, I fear the future.

Iv tried tightening the screws around the fan.... any other ideas? (which wont void warrenty) :)

The fan bearings are shot. Dismantle and install a new fan. (Or risk it)

EDIT: Oh bum, that might void the warranty.....erm.....maybe you could come up with a clever mounting system to place another fan over the hot area ?!?

Not sure I understand.... Your graphics card has a problem... you don't want to tinker too much to void the warranty? Why bother tinkering - just get it replaced under warranty....

alienware warrenty = 2 months
and the graphics card is a x800xt pe, which still costs a hefty £400

right seeing as no matter the fix itl void warrenty, if i risk leaving it be, is there any chance when the graphics card finally breaks, itl take any other components along with it? Or is it safe to just keep on playing till my pc finally dies, with hard drive, processor etc, still nicely intact?

the irony.... just after installing the new hitman my screen went fuzzy, so Iv turned my big pc off to allow it to cool down.... its defantly on the verge of breaking, but unfortunately I need it for some animating I have to do. So I guess the 6th it gets picked up.... I may be on mxo a tad less this next week :(

Replace it under warranty if it's still under warranty.

If it's not under warranty any more, then fixing it yourself won't invalidate its warranty, there is no warranty.

It may be something as simple as a bit of grit in the fan-casing / bearing, perhaps a clean is in order?

If the card overheats due to a duff fan, it's entirely possible it'll wipe other stuff out too, but it might not.

its still under warrenty, but the problem is that in the past to return the pc and get it back takes a good month.
Hence why Im looking for alternative methods to fix it, until a more convenient time (aka when I go away to somewhere sunny for holiday :))

there are options open to you but when Free Technical support is avialable utilise it...

Oh and when my Grfx card fan went around september the grfx card was the ony suvivor...oh teh IRONY, had to replace Mobo and processor then...

So close infact that the screen is permanently shaking up and down with some form of rainbow pattern, and it gives me headaches :/

Hmmm, mine did something similar before dying [semi] permanently.

That being said, I took my Dead-Screened Laptop to a LAN party and ran it almost constantly for 4 days on the panel and it was fine again...

Maybe it just needed a 3 month break...

AGP I doth said. But the man on the other side of the phone, rustling through some papers, told me they had shipped a PCIe card again.
It seems the powers that be are against me, and now due to stock issue I will not be recieving an ATI card at all. However there is hope yet! An nVidea card may arrive within 48 hours.
If it does not, then alas, I will have to re-route my pc through a piece of toast and hope that it will do the job. Is jam a good conductor?
